Lady Rebels Sign JC Transfer Tiara Tucker

April 14, 2016

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV has added one more to its women's basketball signing class for the 2016-17 season, as Tiara Tucker will join the Lady Rebel squad this fall, head coach Kathy Olivier announced on Thursday.

"Tiara is a great pickup for us and we're absolutely thrilled to have her," said Olivier. "She's a quick explosive 1-2 guard that can score and is going to be a great asset for the Lady Rebels. I expect her to help both our overall team depth and our scoring next season."

Tucker, a 5-3 guard, comes to Las Vegas from San Joaquin Delta CC, where she was the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs with a 13.3 points per game while also pacing the the team in assists with 3.3 assists per game. Those figures helped her earn First Team All-Big 8 Conference honors, as well as CCCAA All-State recognition. Tucker was also the MVP of the Tom Gilcrest Invitational. She led the team with a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio and added 2.6 steals per game while helping the Mustangs to a 22-10 overall record.

As a freshman at San Francisco, she made 13 appearances and averaged 1.4 ppg and 0.9 rpg before suffering an injury and missing the rest of the year.

The Stockton, Calif., native was a record-breaking scorer during her prep career, setting the NorCal state record for points in a game with 73 as a junior which ranked as the fourth-highest scoring total ever in the state, behind only women's basketball legends Cheryl Miller and Lisa Leslie. Tucker finished her high school career with 2,816 points, which ranks 20th all-time in California. As a senior, she averaged 15.5 points, 4.8 steals, 3.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game for McNair High School, after playing her first three seasons at Brookside Christian.

Tucker becomes the third member of the Lady Rebel signing class for next season. She joins Rodjanae Wade (Fresno, Calif.) of Edison High School and Kimauri Toia (Taylorsville, Utah) of Hunter High School, both of whom signed in the fall signing period. Also eligible for action in 2016-17 for UNLV are a pair of Division I transfers who sat out this past season, Katie Powell (Arkansas) and Jazmin O'Bannon (Utah Valley).

The Lady Rebels finished the 2015-16 season with an 18-14 record and reached the semifinals of the Mountain West Tournament for the first time since 2009. UNLV will return its top three scorers and a total of nine players from last year's squad.
