UNLV MEN'S SOCCER

The 17th-ranked UNLV Rebels suffered a second straight road loss Friday, as it dropped a 3-0 contest at New Mexico after playing the majority of the contest shorthanded following an early red card in the first half. The two teams both moved to 1-2 on the season following the game, which also extended the Lobos' win streak over UNLV to nine games.

THE TURNING POINT: The Rebels' top offensive threat, senior forward Danny Musovski, was issued a red card while battling for a ball in the 17th minute. That not only took the Rebels' best scorer off the field for the final 73 minutes, it also forced UNLV to play down a man the rest of the way. New Mexico would take advantage of a tired Rebel squad to post two first half goals for a 2-0 lead.

STAT OF THE GAME: Prior to the red card, UNLV had outshot the Lobos 4-1 and were dictating the flow of play. New Mexico finished with four of the final six shots of the first half on goal, and two of the four would find the back of the net.

REBEL OF THE GAME: Timo Mehlich was the only Rebel with multiple shots on the night, and two of his four shots were on goal.

QUOTABLE: "It's a little disappointing, the tempo of the game was good at the start. But it's hard to win when you're playing the last 73 minutes down a man on the road with a shorter bench. I felt the guys played tonight as well as they could have considering the situation, we actually out-shot New Mexico for the majority of the night until the final few minutes. Now we are 1-2, and could play potentially another top-25 team in our next game, so we will have to be ready and prepared for Pacific." - Head Coach Rich Ryerson.

REBEL NOTES: * UNLV held a 6-4 edge on shots on goal at halftime, though New Mexico would finish with a 12-10 overall edge. * UNLV gave up its first penalty kick of the season, when UNM converted an attempt 80th minute for a 3-0 lead to seal the victory.

NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV returns to Las Vegas for its home opener, against Pacific at Peter Johann Memorial Field Friday, Sept. 8 at 7 pm. The annual Alumni game is also set for that date as well, starting at 4:00 pm. It's also a RED OUT night for the Rebels. There will be free t-shirts for the first 125 fans, while UNLV Faculty/Staff will receive four free tickets each and a free BBQ sandwich. Prior to the contest, from 5-6:30 pm, the UNLV Soccer Foundation will hold a free tailgate party, with free food, drinks and music. Admission is free to all ticketed fans.

Season tickets are on sale now and are just $35 for adults, $25 for UNLV faculty/staff and seniors. Single game ticket prices this season are $8 for adults, $6 for faculty/staff and seniors, though a special internet price of $5 is available for all tickets bought online at UNLVTickets.com, good up to three hours before game time. Kids 12 and under are always free at UNLV men's soccer contests. .
