ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV track & field team completed the two-day Don Kirby Invitational Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center with nine top-eight finishes, including a victory in the 800m and a second-place showing in the 60m.
Avi'Tal Wilson-Perteete posted the win in the 800m for the Scarlet & Gray in a time of 2:08.05, while teammate
Elisa Rovere took fifth in 2:10.79.
Kaysha Love pulled double duty for the Rebels with a second-place finish in the 60m (7.33) and later ran a leg of the 4x400m relay, which took fifth in a time of 3:43.74. Love was joined by
Alexis Surrell, Amari Prude and
DeAndra Greer in the relay race.
Both Surrell and Prude were part of an impressive showing by the Rebels in the 200m Thursday.
Emerald Bowens led the group with a time of 24.68, while
Tianna Randle (24.68),
Jada Hicks (24.71), Surrell (24.77) and Prude (25.07) followed closely behind. In all, the times recorded by Bowens, Randle, Surrell and Prude were all personal bests.
Hicks also participated in the 60m hurdles, running a time of 8.35 for fifth in the final.
Jazlynn Shearer took eighth in the 60m hurdles in 8.50, and also competed in the triple jump (40-5.50/12.33m) and long jump (18-5/5.61m).
The Rebels also got strong performances from
Cassidy Osborne-Butler in the weight throw (61-2.75/18.66m) and
Mackenna Howard in the shot put (50-1.75/15.28m), with both finishing eighth in their respective events.
NEXT UP: UNLV will make its third and final trip to Albuquerque in two weeks when the squad competes in the Mountain West Indoor Championships. The three-day meet will take place Feb. 27-29 at the Convention Center.
