Rebels Earn Sixth Straight Team Academic Award

UNLV Volleyball was one of 217 NCAA Division I programs to receive the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Volleyball was one of 217 NCAA Division I programs to receive the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association's 2019-20 Team Academic Award. The Rebels have earned the award six straight years and a total of seven times dating back to the 2007-08 campaign.

In all, the USMC/AVCA recognized a record-setting 1,313 teams this year – 188 more than 2018-19's haul of 1,125 – with the majority coming from the NCAA Division I, II and III ranks (629 recipients) and girls high school (461).

The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was first handed out following the conclusion of the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative GPA on a 5.0 scale.

For the year, UNLV Volleyball posted a 3.57 cumulative team GPA, which was the third best in program history. The Rebels' 3.81 Spring GPA was the highest in program history, while the team recorded a 3.47 GPA in the Fall and had 10 student-athletes earn Fall 2019 All-Mountain West Team recognition.
