Dec. 20, 1999

LAS VEGAS - The Men?s and Women?s teams finished one and two in their respective categories at the 16th annual Winter Invite. In a weekend that had been filled with record-breaking performances, the Rebels claimed even more during the last day of competition.

Jacint Simon placed second to US National Team Member, Chad Carvin in the 1650 event. Simon swam a 15:31.19 and set a UNLV season record in the process. Bobby Middleton also placed his name on the season?s best list with a 2:03.17 performance in the 200 Breast. The 400 R-Free team of Michael Short, Piotr Kryzskow, Tommy Zauder, and Jacint Simon grabbed a first-place finish with a time of 3:02.36, a new season?s best as well.

Dana Penn displayed her strength and endurance by competing in back-to-back events: the grueling 1650 followed by the 200 Breast. The team collected points in every event to finish a close second to the Golden Bears of California in the final results.

The Rebels will take the remainder of December off for Holiday break and will begin the new year in a competition at California January 5.
