UNLV Athletics issues media credentials using the eligibility guidelines below. These standards are designed to achieve efficient use of limited space available for working members of the media at UNLV intercollegiate athletic events.
Media credentials may be issued to working members of the media representing recognized, established, professional media outlets in the business of news gathering/sports reporting as a primary function of their business.
Credential requests must be made by sports editors or sports directors via email to the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications Department.
-
The types of media outlets eligible for credentials include: newspapers, websites, magazines, wire services, college (sport-specific) publications, television and radio.
-
The dissemination of editorial content must be a primary purpose of the media outlet and the outlet must demonstrate a record of sustained, original coverage of college sports on a regular basis.
-
Factors which will be considered in determining if an outlet is eligible for credentials include but are not limited to audience size, market share and editorial structure.
-
Credentials will not be issued to representatives whose outlet exists solely as a platform for distributing unoriginal content (press releases, aggregate news sites, etc.) or content developed using artificial intelligence.
-
Online outlets must (a) be affiliated with a national or regional media organization; or, (b) host a website that provides substantial news/editorial/feature coverage of college athletics and/or UNLV Athletics, and employs at least one full-time, permanent employee responsible for producing the site’s content.Â
-
Credentials will not be issued for representatives from an outlet that do not employ trained journalists (student-led media officially affiliated with a participating institution are exempt) or do not have its own dedicated medium of distribution (e.g. outlets or podcasts that primarily originate from YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.).Â
-
Freelancers without a specific assignment received in writing by an approved organization, Independent blogs, fan-run sites, or internet radio shows will also not be granted credentials.
-
Outlets whose working function is limited primarily to the recording and posting of full media availability sessions without any produced news/editorial/feature content may be denied.
Media using credentials must be on assignment. Passes used by any member of a credentialed outlet without a specific editorial assignment or by non-working members of the outlet are subject to revocation and will affect all future credentialing decisions by UNLV Athletics for that outlet.
Representatives should be affiliated with a lawful working business or enterprise with a Federal Tax ID/Employer Identification Number.
All credential requests will be reviewed by the UNLV Athletics Strategic Communications Department. UNLV Athletics has sole discretion to approve or deny any media credential request and also reserves the right to revoke credentials from any outlet or individual whose coverage practices or conduct are deemed unprofessional or inconsistent with the values and mission of UNLV Athletics, or whose actions do not comply with the operational guidelines of the facility and/or UNLV Athletics intended for the safety of the general public and student athletes and staff.Â
