Freshman Sprinter Earns Conference Honor

Las Vegas - UNLV track and field sprinter Michele Davis was named the Western Athletic Conference's Freshman of the Year.

Davis, a 1998 graduate of Sexton High School, placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 24.39 and fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.85 at the 1999 WAC Indoor Championships. The team finished in 6th place overall. Davis is the first UNLV runner to receive the award.

Her time in the 400m puts her fifth on the UNLV all-time list. Davis is coached by former Michigan State All-American Karen Dennis, who is in her 7th season leading the Rebel program.
