Men's Tennis Falls to Kansas Again

March 27, 1998

LAS VEGAS - The 32nd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team lost to 66th-ranked Kansas for the second time in a week with a 4-1 defeat at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.

Playing through high winds and cold conditions, two of the singles matches were cancelled before completion. The Jayhawks also beat the Rebels on March 20, 4-3, at the Blue-Gray Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

Friday, UNLV (8-7) was swept in doubles play as the Jayhawks won the first point. Kansas then took three of four singles matches to clinch to victory.

UNLV's only win came at the second position where Nenad Zivkovic, who was only two games from victory, won by injury default over 43rd-ranked Enrique Abaroa. UNLV's top player, 40th-ranked Asaf Tishler, was upset by unranked Xavier Avila, 6-4, 7-6, at the top spot.

The Rebels next host WAC rival New Mexico Sunday beginning at noon.
