Men's Tennis Ousted from WAC Tourney

April 23, 1998

TULSA, Okla. - Fourth-seeded UNLV won only one of four completed singles matches and was eliminated from the WAC Men's Tennis Championship, 4-1, by fifth-seed TCU at the Tulsa Southern Tennis Courts Thursday.

The Rebels, 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the WAC, also lost to the Horned Frogs (11-9, 5-1) in last year's league finals.

TCU opened the day by winning both completed doubles matches for one team point. The Frogs then took three straight-set wins to clinch the match. Only freshman Nenad Zivkovic, who defeated Matthew Walsh 6-2, 6-4, scored a point for UNLV. Two other matches, which were in the third set, were cancelled.

The loss marked UNLV's earliest exit from a conference tournament during Head Coach Larry Easley's seven years leading the Rebels.

UNLV now awaits the NCAA Region VII Championship, which it hosts on May 14-16 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
