Las Vegas - UNLV senior Angie Fortner has become the first Rebel cross country runner to qualify for the NCAA championships.
Fortner turned in a record-setting time of 17:04 that was good enough for a sixth place finish at the Western Region Championship hosted by Fresno State Saturday.
It was her sixth top 10 finish and the first time this season she finished out of the top five. Fortner's personal record prior to Saturday's finish was 17:10 at the WAC championship October 31.
The championships will be held at the University of Kansas on November 23.
