Rebel Swimmers Come up Short at BYU

Provo, Utah - UNLV's swimming and diving team fell to BYU on Friday night. The men were defeated 150-93 while the women were edged out 126-117.

Freshman Tera Sherard had an impressive performance for the Rebels, winning the 500 freestyle (5:09.85) and taking first place in the 1000 freestyle (10:31.96). Dana Penn also had a solid performance for the Rebels, finishing first in the 200 butterfly (2:08.75) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:10.47) and 1000 freestyle (10:32.02). She fell to Sherard by six one-hundredths of a second in the 1000 freestyle.

Senior Janel Frei turned in a quality performance, taking first place in the 200 freestyle (1:53.19) and finishing second in the 200 butterfly. Erika Korb took home a first place finish in the 200 breast (2:24.65) and Ashleigh Crowder took first place in the 200 backstroke (2:06.35). The women's "B" team of Crowder, Korb, Victoria Ness and Sabrina Ferrari took first place in the 400 medley (3:54.36).

Leading the way for the men was senior Petr Kratochvil. The senior had a first place finish in the 1000 freestyle (9:36.80) a second place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:40.35) and a third place finish in the 200 IM. Erik Scalise finished first in the 200 IM (1:53.43) while Michael Rosen took the top spot in the 500 freestyle (4:39.21). Andrew Livingston rounds out the Rebel's top performers with a fist place showing in the 200 butterfly (1:51.88 ) UNLV's "A" team of Livingston, Tomasz Piotrowski, Bobby Middleton and Laurens Vosloo placed second in the 400 medley (3:26.47) and 400 freestyle (3:09.08).

The Rebels first home contest is December 4 when they host Northern Arizona at the Buchanan Natatorium.
