The Rebels swimming and diving team fell to Arizona State in its first meet of 1998. The women's squad lost a 161-80 decision while the men fell by the score of 171-76. The meet took p place Saturday at the Aquatic Center on the campus of Arizona State.
Newcomer Ericka Korb had an outstanding first meet as a Rebel. She captured both the 200 individual medley (206.11) and the 200 breast (2:20.76). Her time in the 200 breast outpaced her nearest competitor by nearly four seconds. Victoria Naess also had a solid performance with two second place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:54.36) and the 100 freestyle (52.80).
In men's action the Aztecs were dominant. Erik Scalise started where he left off after last season's NCAA trip in both IM events. He swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM Saturday when he clocked a time of 1:52.26. Andrew Livingston, the Rebels other 1998 NCAA qualifier, captured his event with a time of 1:50.07 in the 200 butterfly. Tomasz Piotrowski took the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:50.37.
Both Rebel teams return to action Friday, November 13 as they travel to BYU for a dual-meet. The first home contest for the teams is December 4 when Northern Arizona visits the Buchanan Natatorium.
