LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams ended the regular season with wins in separate dual meets Saturday. The women's team defeated Fresno State 162-132, while the men were victorious o Over Pacific 171-74.
In women's action, it was another good day for Erica Korb and Janel Frei. Korb had season-bests in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes with times of 1:04.13 and 2:19.00, respectively. She finished second in both events behind the Bulldogs' Holly Gravatt. Frei recorded a personal-best in the 200 fly with a time of 2:06.64 en route to a first place finish. Frei also swam to a first place result in the 500 free (5:00.62). Ashleigh Crowder was another multiple event winner, taking both the 100 back (58.37) and the 200 back (2:05.31). Kelly Goddard swam to a first place finish in the 50 free with her time of 24.49 and Victoria Naess clocked 52.90 for a top result in the 100 free. Tera Sherard had the only other first place finish with a time of 10:18.20 in the 1000 free.
The men cruised to a victory over Pacific led by Erik Scalise's season-best time of 1:41.20 in the 200 free. He also captured the 200 individual medley with his time of 1:53.65. The Rebels finished one-two in the 100 butterfly as Doug Wake (49.79) and Andrew Livingston (51.17) finished first and second. Livingston and Wake also finished one-two in the 200 fly, but this time Livingston finished on top with a time of 1:51.04 while Wake finished at 1:51.40. Michael Soria had his best time of the season in the 500 free with a time of 4:42.40. Soria also swam to a first place finish in the 1000 free (9:33.54). Tomasz Piotrowski finished on top in both backstroke events with times of 51.77 in the 100 and 1:50.44 in the 200.
Rebel Diving was also represented this weekend as Lucas Richmond competed in the Air Force Academy Diving Invitational. He took sixth place in the 1-meter (385.75 pts.) and the 3-meter (421.90 pts.). He also competed in the platform diving competition and finished sixth with 293.10 points.
The Rebels next action will be at the conference championship. The women compete in Oklahoma City February 25-27 and the men's WAC Championships are in Federal Way, Wash. March 4-6.
