LAS VEGAS - The nation's 13th-ranked doubles team of Gee Gee Garvin and Susie Kocsis won at the top spot to clinch UNLV's 5-4 win over Indiana at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.
The Lady Rebels, ranked 36th, snapped an eight-match losing streak to improve to 4-8 on the year. The Hoosiers, ranked 34th, fell to 7-5.
UNLV took four of six singles matches to start the day. Gee Gee Garvin won in straight sets at the top spot, 6-1, 6-4, over Correne Stout. Also winning for the Lady Rebels was Veronica Goude at the third spot, Lisa Annebro at the fifth position and Marcella Valkenhoff, who came back to win in three sets at the sixth spot.
Indiana went on to win two of the three doubles points but Garvin and Kocsis paired to defeat 30th-ranked Stout and Kelly Blanch, 8-6, to take give UNLV the team victory.
