LAS VEGAS - The nation's 13th-ranked doubles team of Gee Gee Garvin and Susie Kocsis won at the top spot to clinch UNLV's 5-4 win over Kansas State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Monday.
The Lady Rebels, ranked 36th, won their second straight to improve to 5-8 on the year. The Wildcats, ranked 63rd, fell to 5-7. The two teams split six singles matches to start the day. Garvin won in straight sets at the top spot, 6-3, 6-0, over 63rd-ranked Yana Dorodnova. Also winning for the Lady Rebels was Veronica Goude at the third spot and Britta Gabl at the fifth position.
KSU won the second doubles match to take a 4-3 lead before Goude and Marcella Valkenhoff tied things by winning 8-4 at the third position. Garvin and Kocsis then ended it by taking the decisive point, 8-6, over Dorodnova and Lena Piliptchak.
