IRVINE, Calif. - Britta Gabl won twice to move into the quarterfinals of the 1998 UC Irvine Blue/Gold Fall Women's Invitational head at the UCI Tennis Stadium Friday.

Gabl, a sophomore, downed Shannon Wilkins of UC Santa Barbara, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round. Later in the day, Gabl rallied to defeat Missy Wright of Purdue, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.

Lady Rebel Marcella Valkenhoff won her second-round match over Connie Burgraff of Long Beach State, 6-4, 6-2, before falling in the third round.

Two other UNLV entries - Marianne Bakken and Susie Kocsis lost their second-round matches and were eliminated.

In doubles play, Kocsis and Valkenhoff teamed to defeat Liz Zim and Caria Nasca of host UC Irvine, 8-0. Gabl and Bakken lost their match 8-1.

The tournament runs through Sunday.
