LAS VEGAS - UNLV sophomore Gee Gee Garvin has been named to the WAC's 1998 all-conference team in both singles and doubles the league announced Thursday.
Garvin, from Vista, Calif., was one of 12 players named to the team in singles after she helped the Lady Rebels reach their first WAC final last week at the conference tournament. BYU, which defeated UNLV in the championship match, led the team with three selections.
Garvin and her partner, junior Susie Kocsis of Budapest, Hungary, also were one of six pairs named to the all-conference doubles team. The duo, which set a UNLV women's tennis record in the fall after reaching as high as No. 4 in the nation, are currently ranked 16th. Garvin also was named All-WAC in doubles last season.
In other awards, Tulsa's Anousjka Van Exel of Tulsa was named WAC Player of the Year, BYU's Holly Parkinson was the league's Freshman of the Year and Cougar head man Clark Barton was tabbed Coach of the Year.
