IRVINE, Calif. - All five UNLV players lost during the first day of the 1998 ITA Women's Tennis Regional played on the campus of UC Irvine Thursday.

Veronica Goude was the only Lady Rebel to win even a single match. The junior defeated Julie Hladik of Loyola Marymount, 6-3, 7-5, in the first round. However, Goude then fell to Lindsey Blau of Arizona, 6-2, 6-3, and was eliminated.

Four other UNLV players - Marcella Valkenhoff, Marianne Bakken, Susie Kocsis and Ursa Radanovic -- lost their first-round matches and will move into the consolation bracket beginning Friday.

The tournament runs through Sunday.
