Men's Tennis Player Named WAC Player of the Week

LAS VEGAS, Nevada - UNLV men's tennis player Asaf Tishler has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Tishler, who is 18-8 in singles and 16-3 in doubles overall this season, upset three higher-ranked players - all in straight sets -- last weekend during the Blue-Gray Invitational in Montgomery, Ala. The junior beat No. 30 David McNamara of Middle Tennessee State, No. 36 Enrique Abaroa of Kansas and No. 63 Oliver Freelove of second-ranked Illinois. He also teamed with Danny Erez to go 2-1 in doubles play.

Tishler, a native of Tel Aviv, Israel, earned the same conference honor on March 31 of last year. He is the second Rebel to win the award this spring following Gregor Skorin on February 17.

UNLV returns to action Friday by hosting Kansas at the Fertitta Tennis Complex beginning at 1:30 p.m.
