LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's tennis player Asaf Tishler has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Tishler, who is 11-5 in singles and 7-4 in doubles overall this season, had four straight-set singles victories over the weekend as his team competed at the HEB Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas. He defeated the No. 1 players from Clemson, Southern Mississippi and Oklahoma State as well as Minnesota's Tom Chicione, who is ranked 18th in the nation.
Tishler, ranked 72nd, also went 2-0 in doubles with partner Danny Erez.
A native of Tel Aviv, Israel, the senior earned the same conference honor in 1997 and '98. He is the third Rebel to win the award during the three years UNLV has been a member of the WAC.
UNLV (5-4) returns to action Monday by hosting Tennessee at the Fertitta Tennis Complex beginning at 1:30 p.m.
