LAS VEGAS - UNLV had one team and two student-athletes honored as members of the 1998 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national academic teams, which were announced by the organization Thursday.
Senior Marie Linusson, from Ulricehamn, Sweden, represented the women's team. The elementary education major boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.65. She was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for the second consecutive year.
To earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a junior or senior, earn a varsity letter and own a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
The entire Lady Rebel team, coached by Ola Malmqvist, was designated Academic All-American for the second straight season. The ITA Academic All-American Team award goes to any program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.2 or above.
Junior Asaf Tishler from Tel Aviv, Israel, was the lone honoree from the UNLV squad as an ITA Scholar-Athlete. The hotel administration major has a cumulative GPA of 3.64.
