LAS VEGAS - The men's and women's teams swam to victory during the final home meet of the season. The women defeated the University of San Diego 160-117, Fresno State 179-101, and the Air Force Academy 151-110. The men swam over the Falcons of Air Force 164-130.
Each swimmer performed at a higher level, posting 25 season and personal best times between the men and women. Madalina Tin swam season bests in the 100 breast (1:06.02), 100 free (52.75), and 100 fly (57.80). Carrie Knopp, Erika Korb, Lorena Diaconescu, Timery Chambers, Ashleigh Crowder, and Whitney Phelps all set personal season bests in their respective events.
The men saw four swimmers exceed their best times in the 50 free: Michael Short (20.59), Andy Kapchinske (21.93), Jonathon Kornblith (22.09), and Mike Schmidt (21.94). David Schick, Garrett Wood, and Luke Moore bettered their times in the 100 back. Paul Valen posted a 1:58.38 in the 200 fly and a 4:08.64 in the 400 IM. Piotr Krzyskow set a season best in the 100 fly with a time of 49.79. Quint Allen had stellar performances in the 200 free (1:43.25) and the 400 IM (4:10.48).
Overall, the Rebels closed out the 2000 season peaking just in time for the Mountain West Championships on February 16-19. The competition will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla.
