LAS VEGAS - The men's swim team began the new year having to face one of the top swimming programs in the nation, the Golden Bears of Cal-Berkeley. Despite first-place finishes in the 200 free, 200 fly, 200 breast, and 400 free-relay, the Rebels were just no match for the Bears down the stretch. UNLV fell to Cal-Berkeley 125-77.
Jacint Simon (Kecskemet, Hungary) continued his excellent season by posting wins in the 200 free (1:51.46) and 200 fly (2:06.18) events. Bobby Middleton (Cathedral City, Calif.) displayed another solid performance in the fly events, tallying a first-place finish in the 200 with a mark of 2:20.45.
The men's and women's team will head to Florida for training and to compete in the Florida Atlantic Invitational on January 8th. This will be one of the biggest meets of the season for the Rebels. They will compete against schools such as Nebraska, Iowa, New Mexico, and Texas A&M.
