ESOTERO, Fla. - The UNLV golf team lost to No. 6 Arizona, 4-1, in the semifinals of the College Golf Foundation Match Play Team Championships at the West Bay Club on Saturday.
In a round shortened by darkness, the Rebels did not win a single individual match. Freshmen James Oh and Brandon Askew both halved their rounds to earn UNLV its single point.
Senior Scott Lander, after upsetting the nation's third-ranked player earlier in the day, fell to the Wildcats' Ricky Barnes, 1-up. Barnes was ranked No. 23 in the Nov. 1 edition of the CGF's rankings.
Arizona's Cody Beyer topped UNLV freshman Travis Whisman, 3 and 2, and Chris Nallen beat sophomore Calvin Kupeyan, 4 and 2, to seal the Wildcats' victory.
With the loss, the Rebels, who entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, advance to Sunday's third-place match where they will face No. 2 Georgia. The Bulldogs were upset in the semifinals by No. 3 Georgia Tech, 3-2.
