LINCOLN, NE - After three sessions of competition at the six-team Husker Shootout, the UNLV men's team still holds a small lead over the field. The women are currently in third, behind Nebraska and Nevada.
Both Rebel teams made a fairly successful run of the pool, winning eleven of the day two events.
The team of David Schick, Michael Short, Quincy Schmidt and Piotr Kryzskow won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:32.40.
Sabrina Ferrari took the women's 100 fly in 57.73, while Andrew Livingston won the men's 100 fly in 49.67.
Lorena Diaconescu and Jacint Simon each finished first in the 200 free with times of 1:51.04 and 1:40.05, respectively.
Erica Korb took first in the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.37, while the team of Diaconescu, Dana Penn, Julie Unrau and Alyson Noble won the 800 free relay in 7:39.58.
Later on Saturday, UNLV's men's and women's teams finished second in the Nebraska Sprint Classic. Host Nebraska won both sides.
Piotr Kryzskow won the 50 free (20.89), with David Schick taking first in the 50 back (23.34).
On the women's side, Lorena Diaconescu finished first in the 100 free in a time of 51.60, almost a full second faster than her nearest competitor. Madalina Tin won the 50 breast (30.03).
The Husker Shootout will conclude on Sunday. The final session of competition begins at 11:00 a.m.
