Swim Teams Trail BYU After Day Three Of MWC Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY - The UNLV Rebel men's and women's swim teams both trail the BYU Cougars heading into the final day of the MWC Championships. Through 28 events the men are behind the Cougars 549-488 and the women trail 507-446.

Dana Penn posted a first-place finish in the 400-IM by swimming a time of 4:27.28. She set a season-record and earned the Rebels 20 points in her win. David Schick made a B-cut in the 100 butterfly by swimming a first-place time of 48.35. Lorena Diaconescu earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Championships in the 200-Free. She broke a UNLV school record in the event with a time of 1:46.92. Jacint Simon also broke a school record in the 200-Free. He earned a B-cut and first place finish with a mark of 1:37.08. Bobby Middleton continued with the theme and broke a UNLV record of his own in the 100 breast. Middleton swam a 54.82 in the event and earned a B-cut to the NCAAs. Ashleigh Crowder had a season best in the 100 back with a time of 57.17. David Schick also has a season best in the 100 back. He swam a 50.29 on his way to a second place finish.

The men's and women's relay teams continued to perform well in the championships. The women placed first in the 800 R-Free (7:30.84) and the men finished second (6:38.16).

The last day of competition will be held tomorrow at the Aquatic Center on the campus of Oklahoma City Community College.
