LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Vladimir Pavicevic earned his first ranking as a Rebel in the WingspanBank.com Collegiate Rankings, which were released Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Pavicevic, who rose to as high as No. 11 in the nation on Sept. 19, 1998, while playing at South Carolina, moved into the 82nd spot in this week's singles rankings. Last week's MWC player of the week has won six of his last matches, including defeating then-sixth-ranked Matt Amgwerd of New Mexico.
Pavicevic is the first men's player to be ranked since Asaf Tishler closed his career at No. 45 in June.
The news was not so good for the Rebel squad, however, as the men's team dropped out of the team rankings for the first time since March 21, 1995. The Rebels, 4-8, were ranked 61st in the last release on March 1.
On the women's side, top player Katarina Malec fell 21 spots to No. 41 after losing to an unranked opponent late last month. Malec, however, is 24-5 overall and has won nine of her last 11.
In doubles play, Malec and teammate Marianne Bakken (13-3 overall) moved up eight spots to a career-high 36th. As a team, the Lady Rebels fell three spots to No. 71 The next rankings will be released March 29.
