COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV's Vladimir Pavicevic has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
A native of Novi Saad, Serbia, Pavicevic went 3-0 at No. 1 singles at last weekend's HEB Tennis Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas.
The junior, who is unranked, defeated the league's top-ranked player - No. 6 Matt Amgwerd of New Mexico - in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, to lead the 61st-ranked Rebels to a 4-2 upset of the No. 57 Lobos.
Pavicevic also earned victories over the top players from 21st-ranked Minnesota and 31st-ranked Washington and went 1-1 in doubles play with partner Danny Erez.
A transfer from South Carolina, Pavicevic improved to 6-5 in dual match play this spring and 7-11 overall. He is the second UNLV men's player to earn the award after Danny Erez was honored Feb. 16.
New Mexico senior Dominika Gerwin was tabbed the conference's women's player of the week.
