Around the League: Four Rebels enter the Mtn. West Championships with the best mark in their respective events. Senior Ayanna Hutchinson owns the best time in the 100 meters at 11.28 and ranks second in the conference in the 200 meters (23.66). Ahead of her is teammate Michele Davis, who clocked a 23.23 in the 200 and a league-best 52.86 in the 400. Senior Jessica Marable will be looking for her first outdoor title in the shotput. She has already thrown 50-10.25 this season. And, freshman Chantel Yates broke a UNLV freshman record in the heptathlon this season, scoring 5,214 points at the Mt. SAC Relays. All four athletes have provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in their events.
All-Conference Call: Several other Rebels will be looking for all-conference status. Jenni Nelson ranks third in the 10,000 meters, Tianika Sharrieff ranks third in the high jump, Charlotte McGee ranks seventh in the pole vault and both Heather Steadham and Belisa Suarez rank in the league's top eight in the long jump and triple jump. Steadham will also challenge in the heptathlon after finishing second in that event at last year's WAC Outdoor Championships.
