CORVALLIS, Ore. - The UNLV women's golf team shot a final-round 312 amid rain and high winds to complete play at the Oregon State/Shanico Invitational and finish 10th overall.
The Rebels (307-308-312--927) improved one spot, leaping past Long Beach State on the final day of competition.
"It rained and rained and was windy and cold today, but we hung in there," head coach Kelley Hester said. "Some of these kids haven't played in that kind of weather before, so it's nice to see that we didn't lose too much focus."
The Rebels' leader on the day was freshman Angela Olivarri (76-83-77--236), who bounced back from Tuesday's 83 with a 77 to finish tied for 52nd overall.
Hwanhee Lee (76-73-79--228) was UNLV's top finisher for the tournament, tying for 25th place at 12-over par.
Lee was some 22 strokes behind Arizona's Lorena Ochoa, who managed a second-straight round of 67 despite the poor weather to claim medalist honors. She defeated her closest competitor by nine strokes and pulled the Wildcats into a playoff with California. The Golden Bears held off the Wildcats to win the playoff and the tournament.
Also counting toward the Rebels' Wednesday total were Erin Borcherts (79-80-78--237), who finished tied for 57th, and Tina Mabanta (76-78-78--232), who tied for 40th. Freshman Christine Hentzner (79-77-87--243) rounded out the lineup in 73rd place.
"I think this [tournament] was a step in the right direction," Hester said. "We beat everybody that we should have beat and nobody beat us that shouldn't have."
