UNLV senior Thomas Schneiter won twice Thursday to move into the fourth round of the Omni Hotels Western Regional Men's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Schneiter, seeded seventh, downed Mahmoud Rozk of Boise State 6-2, 6-1 and then rallied to defeat Corie Scheepers of Utah, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. He will face top-seeded and 13th-ranked Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State in one of Friday's quarterfinals.

The two other remaining Rebels were both eliminated early Thursday. Leslie Eisinga fell to 12th-seeded Michael Polasek of New Mexico, 6-2, 6-2 while Aviram Saloman fell to 10th-seeded Divian Coetzee of New Mexico 6-0, 6-4.

Six of the remaining singles entries were seeded players. However, there were two big surprises on the day as unseeded Jay Patel of Denver upset eighth-seeded Dave Mercier of Utah and then 15th-seeded Anton Redjuk of BYU to advance to the quarterfinals. He will be joined by Daniel Lohff of Utah, who upset second-seeded Mark Roberts of Boise State and then 19th-seeded Edward Brisbois of Idaho.

In doubles, the UNLV team of Leslie Eisinga and Noah Tondre was nipped by Denver's Jay Patel and Lachlan Menzies, 9-8.

Friday will feature one round of singles and two rounds of doubles play in the main draw and two round of singles consolation. The tournament, which began with more than 140 players from 16 teams in the western region, runs through Sunday.
