LAS VEGAS - San Diego State's Oliver Maiberger cruised past Guillaume Bouvier of Boise State 6-2, 6-3 to win the singles title at the Omni Hotels Western Regional Men's Tennis Championships at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.
Maiberger ranked 13th nationally, was the top seed in the 140-man tournament that began Wednesday while 89th-ranked Bouvier was the fourth seed.
Maiberger and teammate Ryan Redondo also won the doubles championship on Saturday. The Aztec duo, seeded second and ranked 46th, upset fourth-ranked and top seeded Carlos Lozano and Gert Vilms of BYU 8-5.
With their performances, both Maiberger and Bouvier and the SDSU doubles team earned main-draw berths into the 2001 Omni Hotels National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on November 8-11 in Dallas, Texas.
