ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The UNLV men's golf team saved its best round for the final day of play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Sunday, shooting 14-over par to move into a tie for 14th place.
Host Georgia Tech (280-282--296--858) held on to its big lead to capture the title while Clemson's D.J. Trahan (69-69-72--210) survived the final round to win.
Freshman Ryan Moore (77-78-71--226) broke out of his slump, carding the Rebels' (306-308-302--916) only sub-par round of the event with a 71 on Sunday. At 10-over, Moore tied for 33rd individually.
UNLV's top finish came from junior Calvin Kupeyan (75-75-74--224), who tied for 27th at eight-over.
Also figuring into UNLV's final-round total were senior Clark Corbett (74-77-80--231), who tied for 47th, and Brett Foulds (81-78-77--236), who tied for 64th. Freshman J.C. Deacon (80-80-85--245) tied for 73rd.
UNLV has about a week to recover and prepare for the prestigious Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, held at the Old Overton Club in Birmingham, Ala., on Oct. 15-16.
