LAS VEGAS - The UNLV swimming team opened the dual meet season with an easy defeat over the University of Toronto. The men's team won 174-73, while the women won 178-98. The men won 14-of-15 events, while the women won 9-of-14 events.
Highlighting the women's side, junior Madalina Tin won three events, taking the 100 breast (1:05.76), 200 breast (2:24.49) and 50 free (24.72). All three wins were unshaved bests.
UNLV finished 1-2-3 in the women's 100 back with Lindsey Whipple taking first in 59.34. Lorena Diaconescu took the 100 (51.83) and 200 free (1:50.34), while Alyson Noble won both the 500 (5:03.17) and 1000 free (10:21.31).
On the men's side, Andrew Livingston took three events, winning the 100 fly (49.49), 200 fly (1:49.68) and 400 IM (4:03.11). Jacint Simon, Ramzy Ladah and Michael Day were also won multiple event winners. Simon took the 200 IM (1:55.67) and 200 free (1:40.68), Ladah won the 100 (58.46) and 200 breast (2:09.36), while Day won the 100 (52.78) and 200 back (1:56.37).
Rounding out the men's wins, Paul Valen took the 1000 free (9:42.75), Michael Short won the 50 free (21.35), Quinten Allen won the 100 free (48.03).
In the relays, the men won both the 200 medley (1:40.13) and the 200 free relay (1:24.78), while the women won the 200 free relay (1:40.13).
UNLV travels to Utah this weekend for a pair or dual meets with BYU on Friday and the University of Utah on Saturday.
