LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior forward Dalron Johnson has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after posting a double-double in the Runnin' Rebels 70-68 win at Loyola Marymount on Saturday.
Johnson, from Los Angeles, Calif. (Verbum Dei HS) helped UNLV erase a 16-point halftime deficit and pull out a two-point victory over the Lions. He collected his first double-double of the season and the 10th of his career with 23 points and 10 rebounds. It was his third 20-plus scoring outing and second double-figure rebound performance of the year. He shot 47.6 percent from the field, blocked two shots and had a career-high six steals, which is currently the MWC-season high.
Johnson ranks second in the MWC in scoring at 18.6 points per game and sixth in rebounding at 7.3 per game. This is Johnson's first player of the week honor of his career.
UNLV is 4-3 on the year and will host Nevada, Reno, on Thursday at 7:35 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center. After UNR, UNLV will host Texas on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the first game of the Las Vegas Showdown. BYU faces Stanford in the second contest, which is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
