STORYLINE: The UNLV track and field team heads to San Diego this week for the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet, scheduled for Wednesday, May 16-Saturday, May 19 at the SDSU Sports Deck, will serve as the last chance for several Rebels to attempt to achieve the NCAA qualifying standards in their respective events.
UNLV: To date, only one Rebel has qualified for the postseason. Katie Barto, who had already clocked a provisional qualifying time in the 5,000 meters, added the 1,500 to her list with a winning effort at the Oxy Invitational last Saturday in 4:22.19. That mark ranks 17th nationally and second in the MWC this year. She ranks 36th in the 5,000 and is doubtful to advance with that mark. Although a bid in the 1,500 is likely, she will be looking to improve her time this weekend.
LAST YEAR: Michele Davis won titles in the 200 and 400 meters as the Rebels scored 129 points and finished second at the inaugural MWC Championships. Ayanna Hutchinson added a third win in the 100 meters and the Rebels' 400- and 1600-meter relay teams each raced to victory.
