SPRINGFIELD, N.J. - UNLV men's golf star Scott Lander has helped the United States' team to a 6.5-1.5 lead over Great Britain after the first day of the Palmer Cup presented by CSFBdirect at Baltusrol Golf Club on Wednesday.
Lander teamed with Georgia's Nick Cassini to defeat the Great Britain & Ireland combo of Graeme McDowell and Justin Kehoe, 4 and 3 in Wednesday morning's fourball match. The U.S. squad won three matches in the early session and halved the last match to carry a 3.5-0.5 lead into Wednesday afternoon's play.
In the second round, Lander and Arizona State standout Jeff Quinney topped Philip Rowe and Kyron Sullivan, 5 and 3, in a foursome match. It was one of three U.S. victories in the afternoon and propelled Team USA to a 6.5-1.5 lead after the first day of play.
Two more rounds of the two-day event are scheduled for Thursday. In singles play, Lander will face Sullivan at 7:48 a.m. EDT and will play a final round sometime on Thursday afternoon.
