Women's Swimming Win Over Hawaii and SDSU

HONOLULU - The UNLV swimmers struggled against wind and rain on Saturday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex in dual meet competition against Hawaii and San Diego State. The Rebel men fell to the UH Rainbows in the very last race to end with scores 151.5-147.5. The women's team defeated both Hawaii (182-112) and San Diego State (176-117).

The women's team began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. The team of Lindsey Whipple, Julie Unrau, Madalina Tin and Lorena Diaconescu won in a time of 1:47.60.

Diaconescu, Whipple and Unrau would all go on to win individual events as well. Diaconescu won both the 50 free (24.06) and 200 free (1:49.37). Whipple won the 100 back (59.10) 200 back (2:08.35), and Unrau finished first in the 200 fly (2:06.43).

Senior captain Dana Penn earned a victory in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.13.

Alyson Noble picked up a pair of wins in the100 free (53.26) and 1000 free (10:06.50).

The women's team capped the meet with a win in the 800 free relay. The team of Noble, Penn, Diaconescu and Tamee Ebert posted a time of 7:37.98.

The men's team also opened the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. The team of David Schick, Quincy Schmidt, Patrick Adams and Michael Short won in a time of 1:33.46.

David Schick followed the medley relay win with first-place finishes in the 100 back (50.90) and 100 fly (49.22).

Andrew Livingston won the 200 fly (1:49.47) and Short won the 50 free (21.24).

The Rebels went 1-2-3 in the 200 back. Michael Day won in 1:54.75, followed by Jonathan Hugo and Andrew Kapchinski.

The Rebels return to action on Feb. 9 when they host Air Force at the Buchanan Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at noon. This will be the last meet before the Rebels travel to Oklahoma City for the Mountain West Conference Championship from Feb. 27-March 2.
