UNLV Men Shut Out By USC

Jan. 30, 2002

LOS ANGELES - The 59th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team was swept 7-0 for the second straight day, this time by 12th-ranked Southern California at Marks Stadium Wednesday.

The Trojans improved to 3-0 on the young season by first winning two of three doubles matches for one team point. While USC easily took matches one and three, UNLV's duo of Thomas Schneiter and Andreas Maurer upset 30th-ranked Daniel Langre and Damien Spizzo at the second position 8-5.

In singles, only one Rebel pushed his opponent to a third set as Maurer fell to 86th-ranked Ruben Torres 6-2, 6-7, 6-1 at the sixth spot.

The Rebels are off until they host the annual, eight-team spring invitational on Feb. 15-17 to open play at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
