Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UNLV women's swim team took first place in nine of the 14 events in a 135-127 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Friday night. The UNLV men's team dropped a close 133-111 decision.
The women were led by Lorena Diaconescu who took first place in three events, the 200 free (1:52.08), 200 IM (2:06.83) and 100 free (52.41).
Diaconescu also teamed with Lindsey Whipple, Madalina Tin and Julie Unrau to win the 200 medley relay in 1:48.08.
Tin also won the 100 breast (1:06.48) and 200 breast (2:25.31) and finished second in the 50 free in 24.69.
Alyson Noble took first in the 1000 free in 10:09.34, a full eleven seconds faster than her closest competitor. She also won the 500 free in 4:58.65.
Julie Unrau and Dana Penn went 1-2 in the 200 fly with Unrau finishing first in 2:06.72.
On the men's side, Michael Day picked up wins in the 200 fly (1:52.02) and the 200 IM (1:56.04).
The team of David Schick, Quincy Schmidt, Bjorn Erikkson and Michael Short won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.61.
Schick also finished first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.16.
Patrick Adams earned a win in the 100 breast, finishing in 58.43, while Jacint Simon won the 500 free in 4:39.28.
The men's team is back in action on Monday, Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. hosting California at the Buchanan Natatorium.
