Swimming Ruins Lobo Home Opener

ALBUQUERQUE - The UNLV women's swimming and diving team defeated New Mexico 159-140 on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels took first place in nine of the 16 events.

UNLV opened the meet by winning the 200 medley relay. The team of Jessie Bradshaw, Julie Unrau, Khawinda Kuhn and Raluca Udroiu won in 1:49.11.

Alyson Noble and Tamee Ebert went 1-2 in both the 500 and 1000 free. Noble won the 1000 in 10:32.28, with Ebert taking second in 10:33.03. Noble won the 500 in 5:07.31, while Ebert finished in 5:11.85.

Julie Unrau won the 200 fly in 2:09.19 and followed it up with a win in the 200IM (2:11.38). Raluca Udroiu also won a pair of individual events. She won the 100 free in 53.53 and the 100 fly in 57.67.

Jessie Bradshaw took first in the 200 back (2:06.46), while Khawinda Kuhn won the 200 breast in 2:27.19.

The Rebels travel to Irvine Calif. next weekend for the Big West Shootout.
