LAS VEGAS - With four-time Fan Jam slam-dunk champion Chris Richardson departed, the door was open for a new champion at Fan Jam 2002 Wednesday at the Thomas & Mack Center. Runnin' Rebel senior forward Lamar Bigby took top honors defeating sophomore forward Louis Amundson 35-33 in the second and final round.
Bigby and Amundson advanced to the final round with scores of 47 and 48, respectively, in the first round. Junior forwards James Peters and Omari Pearson., who were the other players competing, had scores of 38 and 36 in the first round.
Senior guard Jermaine Lewis won the three-point contest with 13 points beating out senior guard Jon Knoche who had 12 points. Junior transfer Odartey Blankson was third with 11, junior guard Demetrius Hunter was fourth with 10, sophomore guard Ernest Turner had eight and freshman guard Jon Osborne had five.
Senior forward Dalron Johnson led all scorers in the scarlet and gray scrimmage with 11 points as the red team won 28-22. Other scorers were senior guard Marcus Banks with six points, Bigby with six, Peters with six, Turner with five, Amundson with four, junior center J.K. Edwards with four, Lewis with four and Hunter and Pearson each with two.
