LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's golf team has received a national letter of intent from Seema Sadekar of Aurora, Ontario, head coach Missy Ringler announced Monday.
A standout junior player studying at the Leadbetter Golf Academy in Bradenton, Fla., Sadekar is currently the 28th-ranked high school senior in the country according to the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings.
"I am very happy to have Seema sign with us," Ringler said. "She is a great addition to this young program and I think she is very excited to help us continue to grow."
Sadekar has played in the last two U.S. Girls Junior Championships. She advanced to match play at the 2001 championship after rounds of 73-71 to tie for sixth in stroke-play qualifying, but lost in the first round.
She won twice in 2001, capturing medalist honors at the AJGA FutureLinks Ontario Junior and the PARS International Junior Golf Championship. This year, she was the runner-up at the AJGA Bank of Montreal Future Links Jr. and finished fifth at the AJGA Kroger Junior Invitational.
"Obviously, she is a very talented player and has experience on the national scene that will allow her the chance to make an immediate impact at the collegiate level," Ringler said.
