LAS VEGAS - UNLV tennis senior Thomas Schneiter earned his first career Mountain West Conference Men's Player of the Week Award, the league announced Friday.
The product of Worb, Switzerland, led the Rebels to the championship of their own spring invitational last weekend. Playing at the No. 1 position, Schneiter swept all four matches he played, two in singles and two in doubles, where he teamed with Andreas Maurer.
The first UNLV men's player to earn the award this season downed No. 75 Colorado's top competitor, Maciej Dilaj, 6-4, 6-0, in the Rebels' 4-3 come-from-behind title-match victory Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Ranked 58th in the latest Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, Schneiter is 9-5 overall this season. UNLV (2-2), moved up one spot in the poll to 58th and is idle until hosting Robert Morris on March 5.
UNLV swept this week's awards as Lady Rebel senior Marianne Bakken was honored for the first time Friday as well.
