CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 59th-ranked UNLV men's team lost the doubles point and couldn't recover en route to being upset 4-2 by No. 70 Memphis in Friday's second round of the annual HEB Tennis Classic.
The Rebels, who advanced with a 4-2 win over UAB earlier in the day, fell to 4-3 overall while the Tigers improved to 6-4.
Memphis began the contest by winning doubles matches at the top spot and on court three to take a 1-0 lead.
In singles play, UNLV's No. 62-ranked Thomas Schneiter quickly tied things with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top position over Ben Stapp.
However, Rebel players dropped their matches at No. 2 and No. 5 to make it 3-1 Memphis. The final two matches were extended to three sets but Aviram Salomon fell 6-0, 5-7, 6-1, to clinch it for the Tigers and the match at No. 4 was halted with Rebel Romain Tug leading.
UNLV, which is seeded third in the three-day tournament, moved into the consolation bracket and will face DePaul on Saturday before closing out the event with a single match on Sunday.
