BOISE, Idaho - Ten first-place victories are in the bag as the UNLV women's track and field team came out victorious at the Outback Invitational hosted by Boise State University at Bronco Stadium.
Junior Tiffany Smith (Woodland Hills, Calif.) was one-of-three Rebels to capture double titles at the two-day meet. In the triple jump, Smith leaped to a career and season best 12.23 meters (40-01.50), while also setting a season best mark of 5.47 meters in the long jump. Smith's previous record of 40-00.00 was second at last year's Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Fellow juniors Michele Davis (Lansing, Mich.) and Nickeisha Charles (Arima, Trinidad) both combined to sweep all of the sprint events. Davis went a season best 11.74 seconds in the 100 meters and 23.64 seconds in the 200 meters. Charles clocked in a winning time in the 400 meters with a 54.26 and a season best 2:13.72 in the 800 meters.
Team co-captain Chantel Yates (Chattanooga, Tenn.) won the 100 meter hurdles (14.31), sophomore Cherokee Osborne (Sparks, Nev.) the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.98) and sophomore Christine Spence (Lee's Summit, Mo.) a winner in the high jump (1.70m). UNLV also took first-place honors in the 4x100 meter relay.
The Rebels return to action next weekend with two teams headed to the Cardinal Invitational on Friday, May 3 in Stanford, Calif., and the Jesse Owens Classic on Sunday, May 5 in Columbus, Ohio.
