ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A final-round 72 was not enough for UNLV sophomore golfer Ryan Moore to upend New Mexico's Michael Letzig on Saturday as the Rebels fell short to the Lobos in both the team and individual standings at the Tucker Intercollegiate.

Letzig (69-68-70--207) held a one-stroke edge over Moore (69-69-72--210) heading into Saturday's final round and carded a 70 on his home course to take medalist honors by three strokes.

The Lobos (281-288-295--864) also held a one-stroke lead on the team leaderboard and were able to score four fewer strokes than UNLV (288-282-299--869) in the final round for a five-stroke win.

Despite the setback, the second-place finishes mark a strong season debut for the 16th-ranked Rebels.

In his first action since undergoing back surgery last season, sophomore Travis Whisman (73-72-71--216) joined Moore in the top 10, tying for ninth at even par.

Rounding out the Rebel lineup were senior Brien Davis (72-72-78--222) in 31st, and Mitch Carlson (77-69-78--224) and Brandon Askew (72-74-78--224), who tied for 42nd.

The Rebels will take two weeks to gear up for the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga., on Sept. 27.
