OREM, Utah - Senior harrier Jessica Zarndt (Las Vegas) opened the 2002 UNLV women's cross country season with a top 15 finish at the 2002 BYU Autumn Classic held Saturday at the Cascade Golf Course.
Zarndt, a local native out of Cheyenne High School, clocked in a time of 22:19.20 finishing 14th among a field of 70 participants. Freshman Michele Suszek (Alpena, Mich.), who competed in her first collegiate meet, followed in a time of 23:04.10 to place 27th.
Host Brigham Young, the defending national champions in the sport, claimed the first five spots of the 6K race with BYU redshirt freshman Breanne Sandberg leading the way with a winning time of 20:57.00. Teams from Weber State, Utah and Utah Valley State College rounded out the field of competition.
UNLV tied for fourth in team scoring with 122 points, while BYU took first-place honors with 15.
The Rebels next travel to paradise and compete in the University of Hawai'i Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Honolulu at 9 a.m. (PST).
