Baseball To Host Three Instructional Camps

Sept. 18, 2002

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball program will host three instructional baseball camps this fall at UNLV's Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Beginning September 23, the UNLV Baseball Hitting Academy will begin for players ages 9-13 at 5 p.m. and at 7:15 p.m. for players ages 14-18. This academy will meet each Monday evening from September 23 through October 28. Only the UNLV staff will serve as instructors and the camp will be limited to the first 30 players. Cost is $325 for the six two-hour sessions.

The Thanksgiving Showcase Camp will be held on November 23-24 for players ages 14-18. This camp is for the high school age player who wishes to showcase his skills for college coaches and professional scouts. The camp runs from 9 a.m.-4p.m. each day and the cost is $160.

The Holiday Camp will again be held from December 27-30, with hitting camp taking place on Dec. 27-28 and position camp on Dec. 29-30. Former Rebel and current Arizona Diamondback, Matt Williams, will be the featured instructor among a staff of high school, college and professional coaches and scouts. Cost of the camp is $160 per camp or $260 for all four days.

"I think we've got a great camp schedule set up this fall," said UNLV head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "This is a great opportunity for young players to learn valuable fundamentals and have fun, while the older players get a head start on the spring season and a chance to be evaluated and coached by some outstanding college coaches."
