LAS VEGAS - Four UNLV athletic programs were recipients of UNLV Athletics' team academic awards for spring 2002 Monday.

The men's basketball, women's basketball, men's golf and women's tennis programs were all honored at the UNLV Athletics Department Presidential Welcome Breakfast at the Thomas & Mack Center's Si Redd Room. The awards recognized the achievements of the teams with the highest grade point averages and most improved GPA's from the prior semester.

The men's basketball team was the most improved men's team as it went from a 2.523 GPA in fall 2001 to a 2.888 GPA in spring 2002. The women's basketball team won the women's award, improving from 2.668 to 2.959.

The highest men's team GPA award went to golf with a spring 2002 GPA of 3.220, while the women's award went to tennis with a spring 2002 GPA of 3.486.
